The Ospreys are Back

Both ospreys from last year have returned to Loch of the Lowes, near Dunkeld and mating has already begun, so signs are good for more chicks this year.  We watched the female on the webcam for a while this morning and then decided to go for a visit this afternoon.  We were lucky enough to see both of them on the nest, although they are a long way away from the hide, so the quality is not brilliant.

Also enjoyed watching the birds on and under the feeders, which included two female woodpeckers, yellowhammers, coal tits, blue tits, great tits, chaffinches, a dunnock, several ducks and a beautiful male pheasant with his entourage of three females.  We also saw two red squirrels which chased each other around the tree trunks (see Extra).

A lovely afternoon and we got home just as the heavens opened, so our timing was good too:-)
