Backblip for Sunday 28th February 2016

"Flowers are the beautiful hieroglyphics of Nature, with which she indicates how much she loves us"

German poet, novelist, playwright and statesman Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749 - 1832)

Quoting from Goethe brings back memories of working on a radio version of 'Torquato Tasso', which was broadcast on Radio 3 at 7 p.m. on Thursday 17th February 1983.  The stars were David Suchet, Eileen Atkins, Michael Pennington and David Buck.  I had lunch with David Suchet in the BBC canteen on one of the recording days, and found him to be delightful and charming company.  When I worked with him again more than twenty years later, we reminisced about recording 'Torquato Tasso' and the lengthy and detailed notes which my boss John Theocharis invariably gave to all the actors.  Fond and pleasant memories of golden days at the BBC.
