Halong Bay, Vietnam

Halong Bay (Vịnh Hạ Long in Vietnamese) is one of the most popular destination in Vietnam. It was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994 and listed in the New 7 Wonders in 2012. Halong Bay literally means "descending dragon bay" and it's name originated from a legend:

"The Jade Emperor sent Mother Dragon and her Child Dragons down to help Vietnamese people. The dragons emitted from their mouths many pearls, which then turned into thousands of stone islands emerging in the sea like great walls stopping the invaders’ boats.

These boats crashed into the islands and broke into pieces. Vietnamese won the battle thanks to the tricky battle field. After the victory, the dragons decided to stay on the bay and the pearls still remained. The location that Mother Dragon landed is then called Ha Long Bay."

I visited Halong Bay last year together with my co-workers and it was indeed a beautiful place! We explored Thien Cung Cave also called as Heavenly Palace, one of the caves that can be found in Halong Bay. It is also considered as the most beautiful cave of the Bay. There were a lot of tourists and the heat was sometimes unbearable but seeing how amazing the limestone formations and stalactites (inside the cave) were is enough for people to fall in love with Halong Bay.
