Re-housed

Another strange, rather unproductive day. After a phone call to the school this morning, someone from facilities came round to have a look at the situation. He was suitably shocked and we all agreed that the work wasn't 'almost finished', which we'd all been led to believe. I made a big thing of showing him the sofas and said they'd need steam cleaned or something equivalent and not just a bit of a pat and moved back into position. By that time it was 11.00am and the cleaning lady had arrived, who had been employed to perform the extra duty of being there to let the workmen in and to stay there while they're in the flat. She had her own stories of the last 6 weeks. She has a low level of English but we understood perfectly that sometimes the workmen didn't show up, sometimes they turned up and just left materials and when they actually turned up to work they arrived late. While we were talking to the guy from facilities she had started to look for things to cover the furniture - a case of shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted. Today, the main workman turned up at 11.30 and his two sidekicks arrived separately within the following hour. Anyway, after that, within a couple of hours (during which we went out for coffee) we received an email saying that we were booked into the Marriott Hotel for the next 10 days. Phew! Bb's told the story of our arrival at the hotel on his blip. Here's our temporary home for the next 10 days. I'm happy that the problem was dealt with quickly and without having to fight for a move.
