Whalley Arches

Another nice day for a drive out (such bliss) :-)
We went to Whalley - near Blackburn and had a look around Whalley Abbey grounds - rather nice, but I was taken by this magnificent railway viaduct, known as 'Whalley Arches'.
It is a 48-span railway bridge crossing the River Calder, built between 1846 and 1850 and containing over 7 million bricks - all locally made.
In 'extras' is a blip of the arches closest to the Abbey. These two arches of the viaduct were filled in by the 19th Century builders with a brick screen decorated with a large gothic arch - in respect of the 14th Century Gatehouse which can just be seen through the centre arch.
