Bonsai pomegranate

I have shown this beautiful bonsai pomegranate in other Blips.

Grown from seed and given to me by a friend, it is nearly 25 years old.

It has never flowered until last year when it produced one flower and subsequent fruit.

I have left the sole fruit growing over the dormant season but now with the first tiny, green shoots appearing on the tree, I am worried that the fruit will take too much from the tree and kill it.

I will now harvest it.

This excess size fruit on a bonsai is not unknown, a type of gigantic dwarfism fruiting behaviour, known as AFDS or Advanced Fruit Display Syndrome
Also known as

April Fools’ Day Silliness.
