Backblip: 30th -- Perygl, waiting for trains

A better day, camera-wise. Not much in the way of good results but at least plenty to choose from now and to blog later. I am missing my Lightroom and feel mightily handicapped by the available tools. Something must be done before we go full time. Looking forward to restoring some quality blips soon.

So, where were we? Ah, yes, parked up on the front in a wet and dismal Borth. Well, morning dawned fair and sunny, if a little chilly and revealed snow-capped mountains in the near distance. We set off for a forest stop at Rhyd, calling in at Dolgellau on the way. Try as we might we could not find a general store for basic supplies though there were rumours of a Co-op somewhere in the vicinity, we failed to find it. We did find a good bakery, a wonderful butcher and a nice wholefood shop with local cheeses. The fridge was replenished with burgers, sausage, home-cured bacon, several cheeses and some fresh free-range eggs.

Then we had a very frightening excursion up a B road in search of our parking spot, with stone dykes on either side and no verges, the narrow road proved only just wide enough to get our van past the smallest of oncoming cars.  At the bus turning spot for the railway station and yards before the scary low and narrow railway bridge, we turned about.... and fled (but very, very slowly)

An alternative resting place turned up in the form of an off-road layby servicing an NTS woodland with several walks available. Nell was in heaven. We walked for a while and then took the extension from the longest route that promised a viewpoint and also a look-see at the Ffestiniog railway.

I really should have realised the implication of the height adjustment to come. Happily the hard work was worth it and as we closed in on the viewpoint we heard it, the steam whistle... I whipped out the camera, aiming it upward and.... Mr L had the sense to grab the lens cap. I achieved something partially obscured and very blurry.

Later we arrived at a level crossing, where we hung about for ages, awaiting the train's return and a better photo op.
