In my guess what tree this is the other day, that seed pod I posted on Flower Friday was from our Magnolia tree. Magnolias are quite popular in Aussie gardens. 
Their main centres of distribution are in east and southeast Asia and a secondary centre in eastern North America, Central America and the West Indies. Plus Australia.
