Through a lens darkly

Crystal Garden

I love finding treasure in the laboratory.

This morning, I checked up on a stainless steel tray that last week contained a saturated solution of copper sulphate. Through the magic of evaporation and crystal formation, this is what greeted me. Jewels! The largest of the crystals was over 3 centimetres long.

Copper sulphate blue is one of my very favourite colours.

Edit: this shot is one that I'm most proud of in my blip journal, together with this one taken at Kew Gardens and this one taken in the sky and this one on Hampstead Heath and this of lilies not to mention this one of two beetles
