Migrant in Moscow

Bygone glory

A classic communist-era mural done masterfully in mosaics (go closer and look at it) by the artist Elvira Pavlovna Zharnasiek.  This is about all that remains of the Stadium of Young Pioneers on Leningradsky Prospekt in Moscow.  Opened in 1926, it was the first organised sporting complex in the USSR.  It gained further fame as the venue for the field hockey events at the 1980 Summer Olympics.  Now sadly dilapidated and overtaken by commercial interests.  But not without resistance from local residents who have reportedly organised themselves to try and preserve the facility.
