The Ram Inn peeps above the road

This ex-inn is in Wotton-under-Edge and the ground floor is below the road for they raised it to go over a ford a little further down where a pond overflowed  It was one of the earliest buildings in the small town for it was occupied by the stonemasons and carpenters who built the church in the 13th century - it may even be older than that for there was an earlier church that burned down and stonemasons would have been needed for that too.  It was in great need of restoration but is lived in by a 94 year old man who seems happy to live with it as it is.  I loved all the stone roofs that I saw today..
