City of Doctors

Greeks take medicine and health very seriously indeed. Private doctors are not expensive and just about everyone you speak to has their own personal array of specialist consultants for this and that.

It is the fact that they are not expensive that makes them so accessible to the general population and it is the fact that so many use them that supports such a vast community of private medical practitioners.

For instance, I got off the boat, had two appointments for examinations and popped round to see a third consultant without an appointment. A couple of hours later I was on the bus with results from the first exam in my hands and the whole exercise had cost me 50 Euro.
