The Pig Laundry

A few blippers had expressed a wish to see the "Pig Laundry" of which I had spoken about a month ago. Our house is over 130 years old and had a small animal stall at the back. This was turned into a walk way from the original kitchen to the stairs leading up to the attic floor. They knocked out a wall - well part of a wall as they left a rather large step and a platform in the stall. They tiled it nicely but it was a pain having to go up and down the steps to walk through to the stairs. Hubby had to duck every time to get through as he is tall. Hubby thought underneath was probably stone and they were too lazy to knock it down to floor level. He was right and he and a friend spent days breaking up the huge stones with a small jack hammer, which burnt out and had to be repaired at one stage. He lowered the overall floor height by 40cm as well so that we ended up with one small step up. The walls were stripped back to the stone (as they were in every room) as the previous "renovation" was so shoddy.
Not many places have a dedicated laundry - it is usually incorporated into the bathroom - so I feel very lucky. I am also lucky to have such a talented husband. The collage shows before and after this nightmare but successful renovation.
