Life from a City

By LeggeAngie

This is the Speicherstadt, or in English, the Warehouse District in Hamburg, and a Unesco World Heritage site. Basically, its a series of man made islands and canals which were built in the 18th century, all red brick, to unload cargo and process it. It is lovely. We spent much of our afternoon here, after a morning at Planten und Blumen - the big park.

In the afternoon we went to the Prototype Museum here, mainly Porsches. Oh - you should have seen the cars. At times I could have sworn James Bond was standing behind me! And my son had a go at driving a Porsche simulator.

Later on, we visited the Customs Museum, or ZollMuseum - only 4 euros for adults, and a bit of a hidden gem. Unfortunately the Maritime Museum was shut, but we were told (I think) it's open tomorrow.

Walking wise, today we hit 14km, and my son is fast asleep - completely shattered. But it has been good. There is just so much to see, and he hates sitting around. We've also discovered a loved of StadtBackerie - the bakery chain.... Its apparently a great place to recharge....

Tomorrow, hopefully the Maritime Museum, Chocolate Museum and Spice Museum...
