A day out in London with Gulli

I had to pick up my Passport from the Barbican today so I decided to take Gulli out for the day (Zeb was doing homework and going to the gym).

We walked from Waterloo alongside the Thames to London Bridge, we stopped at the Tate Modern and saw some Dali and Picasso and quite a lot of other Art that we liked and found interesting.

Then we carried on past the Oxo Tower with great views of St Paul's, The Cheesegrater, the Gherkin and the Walkie Talkie and various Bridges which we both enjoyed walking under, we went down onto the beach and I told Gulli about Mudlarking and how I thought we should do it some day and he found some metal object that seemed to please him.

Then on to The Clink Prison Museum which was gruesome and fascinating. There was a woman there with a tray of artifacts found mudlarking on the baks of the Thames, lots of clay pipes, a stone age scraper, some iron tools etc... she recommended The Thames Discovery Programme which we will definitely use!

Next door is Winchester palace or what remains of it so we had a look at that too.

Then to Borough Market where we ate fudge and bought cheese, I had veggie Indian Curry and Gulli had Paella, the food there is great.

Then I gave him the choice of the Golden Hinde or the Museum of London and he chose the latter so we set off for the Barbican, neither of us had been there before, it's a great Museum which shows the history of the city of London from as far back as it's possible to go until the present day, it's really well put together, we especially liked the replica roman rooms, the Victorian shopping street and the original 1920's Selfridges lift.

We were tired after all that so we went to Benugo for an hour and relaxed.

Then I got my passport and we jumped on a bus back to Waterloo which went past St Paul's, the Royal Courts of Justice, Fleet Street, the Strand and Waterloo Bridge.

What a day!

So lovely to have a day to ourselves too, we had a lot of fun and made some great discoveries.

Extra photos are Gulli with a street performer with no face and Gulli worn out in Benugo.
