Piel Castle

The weather forecast was for good weather at the coast and wintry showers inland, so we decided to go to Piel Island near Barrow-in-Furness. It turned out to be correct so we had a great day on the tiny island with its castle and pub. This is the castle built to help the monks at the nearby abbey safeguard their trade and turn a blind eye to smuggling. There's not too much left, but it was still interesting. The pub did a good bowl of soup and an equally fine pint.
