The beetle and the star

Astrantia is derived from the Latin word for star and I have just found out that the flower is mainly pollinated by beetles.

What a night. T was up at 3 am to go and help out on a neighbouring farm when he found a sick calf on our farm. Its mother had been calling as there was something wrong. Her calf seemed to have a twisted gut and was in need of rehydration. So he tubed it but fortnately for the calf who would never have recovered properly, it died. The poor mother has been grieving for her loss all day. In a day or two it will become easier for her and she will forget about it. A sad time.

Then there has been the news all over the newspaper of the couple that had been found dead after ten days buried in their car under a landslip in Beaminster Tunnel caused by the bad weather, not far from here. A tragic end for those people. The tunnel will now be closed for months. K has to take a long detour to work.
