If the eyes are the window to the soul

This little fella doesn't have a happy one! Picture also sums up my feelings about work - more of that later and a rant warning - there is one coming. It's been a while so it's a long one.

Achieved almost 12 hours of sleep last night with barely an interruption. In bed at 8, woke at 6 for 45 minutes and then back to sleep till 8:30. You would think that so much sleep would leave you feeling refreshed but it seems that the opposite is true. I woke up feeling absolutely knackered. I felt better yesterday when I woke up after 1 hours sleep. How can that be?

Not looking forward to work next week. The company is laying off almost 80% of the UK workforce in the area in which I work. I'm not affected but those that are get to learn of their fate on Thursday and those made redundant will leave at the end of April. That leaves just 2 weeks for 80% of the workforce to hand over their responsibilities to those that remain. It would sound like those that remain are picking up 4 * their current workload but that's not the case or at least it shouldn't be as the people being made redundant are to be replaced by cheaper resources in low cost parts of the country/world. Now that really pisses me off. Redundancy means that your job is no longer required not that we have found someone willing to do it for less money. Seems to me that in terms of workers rights, we have gone full circle and are back in the days of the woolen mills and greedy bosses who view their workers as little more than a disposable asset. Those responsible will tell themselves that they are just doing their job and that if they did't do it someone else would. Now where have I heard this before? We always have a choice but we don't always have big enough balls to make the right one.
