Hobbs's Run

To the South Concourse

Norma (that's her just up ahead in the casual white jacket) and I decided to take a break from our normal, peaceful, highland existence and spend a few days in the "big smoke". With the daily prices of accommodation fluctuating wildly and with all sorts of deals on offer, we finished up staying at a hotel quite new to us just down the road from an unfamiliar entrance to Central Station.

We pass through Sydney Central railway station and transport hub all the time for various purposes but being creatures of habit we always go in and out the same way. This time we discovered extensions to the complex which we had previously known nothing about ... and what an immense 27 platform rabbit warren it has become - across several levels above and below ground, complete with pedestrian access tunnels from all sorts of directions, whole shopping precincts and heaven knows what else.

Having lived in or near Sydney virtually all my life I found myself in the "South Concourse" for the first time ever. I don't recall ANYONE ever asking my permission if they could go ahead and build all this stuff. How rude.

Anyway I had stood here for some little while, shooting pictures at various shutter speeds and white balances, mainly waiting for the peak hour crowds to thin out a bit. Heaven only knows how many thousands of people stampede past this spot everyday.
