Last full day in Vienna

Another glorious sunny morning to waken up to. Another great nights sleep. I love these beds that are big doubles or king size not sure but have separate mattresses and duvets as if any of the two of us have to get up or is restless then the other person isn't bounced about on the bed. I'm going to look into them...

Streets much busier than yesterday as its Monday and everyone is going to work. We are walking half an hour to the Prater Park, a massive chestnut tree lined park with lakes, playpark, two racecourses and the reason we came here, to ride on the 100 year old Ferris wheel, the Riesenrad! It was in the film The Third Man and its wooden carriages kinda like old trams. First of all we had breakfast outside in a little Cafe on the edge of the park watching a corporate video being shot which the poor employees were standing in a line and had to perform numerous Mexican waves to a cameraman who would run up the whole line of them. Some of the employees were dressed as Super Mario, very weird!!

We wandered over the to Ferris wheel, but first of all we had a look at the museum next to it where the history not just the Ferris wheel but of the city are displayed wonderfully inside some of the old red cabins. It's takes a good while to go round its axis and the views from it were tremendous. After that we wander through the Riesenrad and stopped off for lunch at the Schweizerhaus of frankfurter and chips sitting in the Beir garden. Lovely. We watched the highest chair plane ride in the world next to us. Not for me but there was no screaming from it so its for the crazy people.

Next we walked to the Hundertwasser Village about half an hour walk away through the park and then a couple of streets down. This social housing project was created in 1990 with houses and shopping centre, nothing like the faceless awful retail shopping centres we get here . It was colourful and interesting. Fountains and an art gallery incorporated into the building - perfect place to live in the city as its also covered in trees and bushes . Never seen anything like it.

Next was a walk back to the centre of the old city and time for sachertorte and coffee in Cafe Digilas. The Cafes here are old and full of character. Well they are inside but cos of the sun we have to sit out to get the full quota of Vit D. Next stop after another walk was the Karlskirche and another climb to the top which brought on some dizziness as this was a steel structure that moved. I felt sick and a bit faint so had to get down quickly....

We walked home through Stephensplatz stopping to watch the horses again.

Freshened up and out for tea and we chose a traditional Austrian restaurant this time. Didn't want any surprises tonight as was starving a hungur! The restaurant was the Stadtheuriger Gigerl and we had the meat platter which was chicken, pork, ham, schnitzel, with tats and dumplings also served with tattie salary and tomatoes and cucumber. The meat was so tender. Pudding was just incredible. Apple strudel and custard and also the mouth watering Kaiserschmarrn and plum compote. Best pudding in years.....

Another fabulous day in Wein.
