Kincardine-on-Forth

An early start this morning and a drive over to Kirkcaldy where a kind ex-colleague had organised a 'Zumbathon' to help raise funds for the new riding project we're hoping to establish in Stirling. See my extra - a Zumbathon is basically two hours of energetic Zumba broken by a raffle with extraordinarily generous prizes and cake. Total donation yet to be announced but it will be a couple of hundred pounds at least. Very thoughtful.

On the way home we did something I've wanted to do for ages. I've driven through Kincardine and over its bridge countless times but never stopped to have a proper look round. Found a way through the lovely 17th, 18th and 19th century fishing cottages and much grander merchants' houses down to the river. Here you can see some old fishing smacks moored, though Kincardine hasn't been a port for many years. Chatted to someone who'd lived in Kincardine all his days and learned a lot about the extent of the fishing that existed in the mid 20th century. In the background, and on the south side of the river, Grangemouth petrochemical works are belching away.
