The blue narcissus

A couple of days ago the elder Talpid  was asking about how plants suck up water from the soil. To try to answer the question, at least in part, we cut a white narcissus flower and placed the stem in water that had been coloured with blue food dye. The dye has now been taken up into the flower, showing the intricacy of its plumbing system.
