Westerkerk Licht

Up early today & headed straight for the Anne Frank Huis which was fascinating & also the quietest place in Amsterdam. As we toured round the house hardly anybody spoke which seemed right.

The house is as it was after the Franks' & their fellow hiders arrest in 1944 - completely empty.

Walking through the tiny secret annexe, there are still signs of 'the hiders' - pencil marks on the wall marking Anne & her sister Margot's height gain; pictures of famous people including the Queen as a young princess; and Mr Frank's map tracking the progress of the allied forces.

After learning of the deaths of his wife & daughters & receiving Anne's diaries, Mr Frank insisted on publishing the diary, albeit slightly edited, & opening up the house as a museum.

If you visit Amsterdam I thoroughly recommend it.
