Crofthead Thread Mill

Over in Uplawmoor today, with the disused Crofthead Thread Mill in Neilston being blipped on the way back.

This mill was built in 1891 (to replace the original smaller 1792 mill).

By 1900, the mill employed more than 1000 employees producing threads which was then wound on balls, spools and cops. Large amounts of workers travelled from the Duke street mills in Glasgow. 250 mill houses were built to accommodate the extra workers and their families.

In 1992 the mill was closed.

A sad reflection of the decline of British manufacturing.

Here's hoping you have all enjoyed Sunday.
