Memories

Backblip:
London - Day 3 of travels with Matilda.

More overground and underground wombling today up to Piccadilly to celebrate Don & Rosemary's Golden Wedding Anniversary at The RAF Club.  Luncheon and service were excellent of course and on our table were two chaps who flew in the London to Sydney Air Race with Mr T in 2001.  It was great to catch up with them and their wives again.  We hadn't seen any of them since a Race Reunion in Guernsey some 10 years ago.

After all that a walk was called for, the sun shone and we walked the length of Piccadilly, through the Burlington Arcade and onward to No 14 Saville Row where I worked in the Couture Dept. at Hardy Amies in the early 60's.
The first floor was the show room where the elite clients came to view the seasonal Collections and choose the desired item/s of clothing to be made up.  After a choice was made I would nip down to the stockroom in the basement to order material, lining and buttons etc. and then make appointments for the Dressmaker and Tailor to do the fittings at No 14.  One of HA's  most elite clients was Her Majesty the Queen who we greeted and showed her into the showroom where she and her dresser had a private meeting with HA to choose outfits of daywear for her various travels.  I would then order material etc and make appointments for fittings which were to be done at the Palace ....
Aaaaah what a wonderful day, soooo many memories.
