RSC choice

In Stratford today, and of course to the theatre in the evening. Of the plays on offer we saw Maria Aberg's production of Dr Faustus. Something of a Marmite show, or at the very least a little challenging, with shades of Kill Bill from a stamping, stomping and shouting cardboard cutout band of henchmen, a totally OTT visit by the grotesquely portrayed Seven Deadly Sins, some pyrotechnics and a completely unexpected, frustrating (for John Faustus) and rather beautiful final interlude with Helen of Troy played by a pretty young girl who looks as if she's still in the fourth form of St Monicas.
