In memory of that basketweaver

Every day anew this question comes up: where shall we go? Of course this is all about the meaning of life. The question starts to rise as soon as we awake. Why mention the obvious? It’s just what we all do any day. Don’t bore us here. Make plan, set your goal, implement choices. Is that how it works? Not for us anyhow.

It came up during lunchtime: have you made up your mind? I still felt emotionally moved by the surprising outcome of my morning meditation, but I did have some vague idea. If you want to pass through Beverungen for some shopping, we could drive to Dalhausen first. And then climb up the steep track towards the pilgrim cave. We skipped that part some time ago  returning from the Edessen Recluse.

So, this is healthy for your spiritual walkers heart. Where will the parttime pilgrims sit together in silence today? Where to situate and celebrate our Love Bench this afternoon?
Practically we first strolled around in Dalhausen along the Bever stream. Passed the basketwork museum. Life and work here had been harsh and poor: farming, goatkeeping, sheepherding and basketwork.

And we took our time to test our climbing energy all the way up to the Grotto-chapel. Enjoying the vista over the valleys and mountains. Breathing in that marvellous greening everwhere. Once at the Maria chapel we rested a while. It had been build after WWI as a gesture of gratitude by a soldier who returned unhurt. Unsensitive for this symbolism a vandal on a motorbike had plowed his boredom into the lawn. Carving out an 8. As sign of infinite destruction, maybe?

From this holy place we made the great circle down the forest road. Found back our descent to the Lebersieck stream. Inhaled the outcoming blossom perfumes. And finally walked over the old railwaytrack back to Dalhausen. Just in time for the shopping. The richness however was given in that tiny touch of spirituality, present as we climbed up that very steep mountaintrack. Slowly. Like a basketweaver who had survived the trenches.
