Dick's Pics

Lucky toads

Driving over the tops from the western end of Loch Tummel, south towards Aberfeldy, we stopped to look at a well preserved lime kiln. Inset in to the top of the kiln was a circular depression with straight walls and steps down in to it. The floor was grassed and maybe a dozen frogs and toads were sitting there. Having hopped in, they were unable to get out. We picked them out and took them to a nearby pond that they had probably been heading for. But not before this happy couple smiled for the camera.

Not a frog or a toad has visited our pond to mate this year.
