Oyster-catchers

All along the shore of Loch Striven today the oyster-catchers were clearly in pairs - standing at the water's edge looking out to the far side, following one another in little forays along the beach, or, like this pair, perched on a rock in the middle of not speaking to one another. They seemed less stressed than the oyster-catchers along the Toward shore; perhaps there's so little traffic on the loch side that they're not so neurotic.

We also saw either one restless heron or three separate herons taking off and flying wonderfully down the loch in the still air. Magic.
