A Good Read

Set in the 1920's and 30's this is the log of Glasgow surgeon R B Carslaw and a series of yachts named Rowan I, II, III and IV.

As his family grew in size so did his boats

This is a fascinating record of the early days of pleasure sailing on the west coast of Scotland and captures the essence of adventure before marinas and navigation by Sat-Nav even cooking was very basic done by Primus stove and the early yachtsmen had to create their own detailed charts.

PS. Rowan IV is lovingly preserved by the descendants of Dr Rowan and can by seen every summer retracing the routes of yore.
