The Cloisters

On this chilly, rainy and snowy (!) day we travelled to the north of Manhattan to visit The Cloisters. European medieval art is on display here and although it had a touch from home (even some items from Limburg!), it is also sad to see that literally parts of churches and monasteries were take to display here. Nevertheless, some beautiful pieces are on display. It was hard to choose, so I am going with three photos today, Main picture is the iconic tapestry "The Unicorn is in Captivity and No Longer Dead" from a series of seven tapestries "The Hunt of the Unicorn", from the Brussels/Liege area. In the extras are a very tender statue of Mary and baby Jesus and some of the earliest playing cards, which reminded me of the game dixit. Love the one to the right!
