Capturing my Journey

By thedoglady

Backwards

This wee one wanted to be different and was coming backwards. I saw the ewe was lambing but didnt seem to be getting down to it. I could see two feet so thought maybe its head was back. I got Breagh to catch her and the minute i felt the legs i realised it was breach. You have to lamb breaches quickly as the umbilical breaks before the lamb is out so it takes its first breath when its still in the womb. Anyway i whipped out the lamb and had to work quite a bit to get it breathing well. You can see its very dark orange goop on it which means its had a prolonged difficult birth.

Got another group of ewes and lambs away back to the hill. Upon some calculations we are over halfway and have approx 50 to go now.

We also disbudded and tagged Hermiones bull calf. Think they will go back out tomorrow.

10 7mph Sw sunshine and occasional light showers and clouds
