Bougainvillea Bike

We had a little junket to San Jose to pick up something at REI. I always welcome a trip over the hill because there are so many good restaurants in the area. It was hard to choose between our old standby for dim sum and the untried Korean place next door, but we opted for a new experience and were not disappointed. (I love the display of plastic replicas of the food! It's fascinating to think there is a factory somewhere that churns out plates of fake food. Doesn't seem like a good way to make a living, but maybe there's a bigger demand than I can imagine.) Anyway, we had a hearty soup with giant tasty dumplings, and a kind of bento box with short ribs and various samples of appetizers. The best part is the spread of a dozen little silver bowls of banchan (side dishes) to accompany the purple rice--seaweed, kimchi, fishcake, dried anchovies, pickled radish--the list is long!  I would go back to try more of their extensive menu, just because it's fun to mix and match all the flavors.

The bicycle is in the courtyard of the mini mall that houses the restaurants.

Oh, and I got a Pencil53 (a stylus) at the Apple Store to draw on my iPad. Watch this space.
