As you enter the V&A from Exhibition Road, the first thing you see is a sculpture called Mankind made by Eric Gill in 1928. It is a magnificent naked female torso and always makes me wonder how someone could make something so utterly beautiful. It doesn't look like a piece of stone. Gill received no formal artistic training and didn't work from a model. He just made these wonderful figures.

I'm sure most people would recognise this from the front but I think the bottom is just as perfect as the rest. The woman in the shot clearly thought I was up to no good.
