Stuff and Nonsense

Sandpiper

Today was a nice sunny day, even though it was quite cold outside!
We went to Pennington Flash in search of a new bird and were not disappointed.
After a nice half hour watching the woodland birds from the hide, we headed around to the spit and saw this sandpiper digging about in the mud. Not one we'd seen before, so our quest was complete. I'm always pleased to add a new sighting to my list :)
We had a lovely late lunch at the Swan pub and then I wanted to see a woodpecker, so we headed to Risley for the last hour of the afternoon.
Again we had a successful visit, a female great spotted woodpecker soon came down to say hello. We also had a quick 10 minutes over at the moss and managed to see a very noisy wren and another new bird, a yellowhammer, although I didn't manage a shot.

Overall, a really nice day, and the new car is great too!

Hope you all have a great rest of the weekend. I'm off to The Netherlands tomorrow for work.
