Energy From Waste

Today I organised a trip around the Ardley Energy From Waste facility for the Bicester Camera Club. Some extra pictures from the day are here on Flickr.

It was really interesting to hear how they take household rubbish from Oxfordshire and its surrounding areas and create power from that through incineration, but also sift what doesn't get burnt and recycle metals, and also take the ash and turn that into building and road making products.

The efforts they go to in removing particulates and chemically scrubbing the exhaust gasses so that it only puts out a cloud rather than smoke. The way the environment agency monitors them to ensure they are correct, and the systems they have. Its not just a big bonfire with noxious gasses spilling out everywhere as the doom merchants would have you believe.

If you are in the area, it well worth investigating if you can visit.
