Sweet Black Cow Pumpclip

Finally got round to making a pumpclip for the Sweet Black Cow - Hophead Brewery's first milk stout. Made with maris otter pale malt, munich malt, chocolate malt, crystal malt and roasted barley. Hoped lightly with Fuggles hops and sweetened with milk sugar (lactose). The lactose goes into the boil. Unlike most of the sugars in the wort provided by the malt, the yeast can't break down the lactose into alcohol and CO2 so the sweetness is retained.  I'm not a big fan of sweet beer but was inspired by the Kew Brewery's Kew Green and Black milk stout. In te finished beer the sweetness is balanced by the bitter flavours from the dark malt and roast barley.
