Primrose

We await your arrival
With bated breath,
O primrose,
Harbinger of Spring.
Your name means first rose,
Given before the time
When roses bore thorns.

Primroses were Disraeli's favourite flower, and Queen Victoria used to send him bunches of them from her gardens. When he died she sent a huge wreath of them as a token of her affection and respect. (From the Language of Flowers)
