Longhorns

The English Longhorn's have been out on the reserve for a week now. Their long curved horns may make them appear aggressive but most are usually friendly. We use them, together with Exmoor ponies  and Hebridean sheep, for conservation grazing - that is low density stocking and low intervention care to help optimize the heathland habitat for invertebrates, small mammals and birds. I've noticed that the Longhorn's always stay together while the ponies have split into two distinct groups which can be up to a mile apart.
