The Best of the Day

Today, the forecast looked good - perhaps a bit on the cool side, and turning a little dull for a couple of hours this afternoon. We went up the area we have volunteered to survey for the BTO's Breeding Waders of English Upland Farmland survey to do a recce of the 60 fields designated to us. The Song Thrush was the first and best photo of the day, taken in glorious sunshine. We had a couple of interesting and useful encounters with a couple of young gamekeepers and a farmer's wife. Then a great sighting of a Red Kite overhead. Then there were a couple of small snow flurries. Around 1pm we decided to go home for some lunch, by which time the weather had begun to close in - we even had some quite heavy snow showers an well as hail and sleet. We decided it might be a good idea to complete our recce on another day.
An extra shows the point where we saw the Red Kite and a cloud containing one of the flurries approaching.
