Historic Railway station

My mention of York yesterday reminded me that the National Railway Museum (UK) is situated in the former railway works behind this station which opened in 1877, when it was said to the largest in the world.

It was also from here that I rode behind the famous Flying Scotsman shortly before it was taken off the rails for refurbishment which proved more extensive and expensive than estimated and ended only this year after ten years absence.  It is now once again running a full programme of trips over the national rail network.

I have published some of the photos from my 2005 trip before, and am posting a retrospective collage in my  extras today.
