Rose

Today's the day ........................ to inherit

I don't know what the name of this rose is. It was in the garden when we bought the house - so you might say that we inherited it. I have a feeling that it could be very old. It probably belonged to the original big Victorian house into whose garden our house was built in 1937. It certainly was planted against one of the original limestone walls that was here long before our house was.

The stem of it is thick and gnarled and no matter how hard you prune it, it always grows vigorously back to the way it was before. It never seems to be affected by greenfly or blackspot. Its flowers are of the most delicate pink and have an intoxicating scent.

No doubt it could tell a tale or two of the goings-on in this garden over the years ...................
