Riverside

Suddenly the sun started shining and the air was a relatively barmy 16C, so after coffee in a new Garden Centre (one which we probably won't hurry back to!), I headed to one one of our favoured country parks, Riverside on the Medway estuary in Rainham.  The tide was well out leaving sweeping views across the mud flats.

We walked out out (or rather Mum rode on her scooter) along a causeway to "Horrible Hill".  It got its name from the screams of French Prisoners imprisoned  in hulks moored off the islet, or perhaps it was after the site of a gallows where criminals were left to hang as a a warning, or there again it may have been after the stench of rotting manure when the site was used as a dumping ground by local farmers.

However it got its name, today is makes for a pleasant stroll, and a good chance to try out some close-ups of the lichen on the rocks and groins.
