But, then again . . . . .

Sadness and Anger.

In a few week’s our time, our cinema is showing the highly rated children’s animation, “Inside Out.” It’s our (very early) contribution to the Midlothian Science Festival and we’re having a prof. and her post-grad. student come along and do a short workshop for the kids before the film, and a Q&A session with adults afterwards. These two dolls are going to be raffled off on the night to raise funds for us. It’s our first foray into fund-raising, although we do try and have an interval in all bar the shortest films to raise money from refreshments. A few of our customers have lapsed because of this practice, but it does raise over a thousand pounds a year

Earlier in the day we had a bee meeting at Newbattle; although it did turn out to be suitable to open hives, nobody  seemed to be in the mood as they had mentally switched off the idea by the earlier cold drizzle. We did have a couple of speakers from the Scottish Beekeepers’ Association who fielded a lot of complaints about our national body (who went down several notches in my estimation when they started putting the apostrophe before the “s” a few years ago); we weren’t actually getting at our guests as they are not the culprits, but they do have the authority to register our feelings with the high heid yins. Their actual remits today were to tell us about research done on the sourcing of bees and the plans for developing beekeeping facilities in Scotland. All very interesting stuff, and a lot of extra-curricular information as well which I may return to in a future Blip.
