Nose to nose

The dog was just sitting there waiting for the gopher to appear. The gopher emerged each time he had to push some soil out of the hole. Even when it emerged, the dog just watched. The gopher did not seem to be at all disturbed by the dog being less than a foot from it. When the gopher closed the hole, it went back down and the dog left.
