Lovely walk down Southend Pier on a beautifully sunny day. Southend Pier has seen a lot of action! It's the major landmark in Southend-on-Sea, extending into the Thames Estuary.

Here goes .....
- The pier is a Grade II listed building.
- It's the longest pleasure pier in the world (1.34 miles)
- It has been burned down numerous times and extended numerous times
- Has been home to a bowling alley, cafe, theatre, hall of mirrors, railway, museum, lifeboat station, radio broadcast site, amusement arcade, pub, shops, venue for art exhibitions and is the location for some of Jamie Oliver's recent food programmes
- Built in 1887 for an initial cost of almost £70,000.
- Was renamed HMS Leigh during World War II
- Visitor numbers peaked at 5.75 million in 1949–1950
- Voted Pier of the Year in 2007
- Southend Pier has featured in the television series Minder and is mentioned in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

So it's quite a sight and quite a walk too.
