Summer In The City

Mostly I lean on a gate,
stick of straw in my mouth,
sheep grazing in the field behind,
twigs in my hair
and the sweet smell of manure in the air.

But here I am, in the city,
having my eyes opened.

People are on their phones. Constantly.
Talking. Texting. Tweeting. (Tweeting!
That's what birds do in the country).

Look at him in his shorts.
His bare white legs stepping out
on these mean streets.

'The fact is, the fact is...'
he's saying to his mobile.

Exciting this is.

I wonder what the fact is?

What a day...

...for a daydream
