It's All About Bulbs ...

Tulip cultivation in the province of Zeeland. When you see those fields in bloom perhaps you wonder what happens to all those beautiful flowers. This afternoon I drove over the islands in Zeeland and got an answer to this question.

The tulips are cut. Like grass and corn. Only tulips just below the bud. After all, the farmer doesn't mind the flowers, but wants the bulb. The flowers are cut just below the calyx. And then?


The answer is shown in the additional photos section. The flower heads fall next to the flowerbed and are crushed by the heavy wheels of the tractor and used as fertilizer for the soil ....
