Surprises

This iris appeared this year in a pot of perennials that has been on our deck for a number of years. It has lovely variegated leaves so I thought that it was not a flower. It was a happy surprise to find out it is a lovely purple iris.

This morning Arvin, Helena and I went to the Music Club and got two more surprises. We learned that the club won one of the Mayor's Arts Awards this year, the 100th anniversary of the club. How cool is that?

The second surprise was that the performer was ill. He called at 7:30 am to say he could not come due to flu. Jack called Jeffry Gilium, the piano professor at WWU, who happened to have two students who might be able to fill in. He reached Daniel Chong around 9 am. Daniel was there to play a part of the music from the senior recital he did on Sunday, in time for the 10:30 performance. And he was totally amazing. I hope I live long enough to be able to say I knew him when. He is clearly going to be famous one day. Wow.

After we had our usual gathering for lunch. Then we picked up Helena's cat Bunny for a week while H travels east to visit her mother. Back at our house Ian joined us for dinner and a bit of TV. A good day.
