Oasis

It looks like any resting place in a busy shopping mall, but maybe the signs reveal just why this one is a bit different.
It’s located in the re-developed main entrance of Southampton University Hospitals’ General Hospital which is due to fully open tomorrow after months of visitors facing frustrating lengthy detours to gain access to the hospital.
When you are fit and well, then the exercise of the long walk to your hospital destination has probably been of little concern, but for the elderly and anyone having difficulty with walking the months of the work going on have been grim, and small wonder the freshly opened M&S Café and adjoining M&S Simply Food have provided an oasis.
But small wonder. The hospital reckons almost 10,000 people normally walk through the main entrance doors every week day, yet alone patients who are able to walk or move around from their wards.
The new entrance promises to include a larger, lighter, double-height entrance, a new reception area, improved patient and visitor facilities and extra seating.

The £2.5m project has been funded by University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust’s commercial partner Interserve Prime as part of an agreement  which the Hospital Trust says will see revenue from the new entrance and retail area reinvested into the hospital and NHS services.
